The Food Files – Week of 6/11

11 Jun

New Restaurants

  • Collections Cafe has opened at Chihuly Garden and Glass. From the pics I’ve seen, the decor was inspired by Chihuly but with a twist. Think musical instruments hanging from the ceiling and vintage radios lining the walls. Looks awesome! The food should be just as tasty.
  • Seattle Center keeps the updates coming with Skillet Counter which should open later this month. Skillet already operates a food truck and a diner but is looking to create a new experience with this latest location. Can’t wait to check it out.

Upcoming Events

  • The Washington’s Brewers Festival is goin’ down this weekend at Marymoor Park (15th-17th). Ticket prices range from $15-$40.
  • Tasting Flight at Woodland Park Zoo will be held on Thursday, June 28th. Tickets are $25-$30.

New Restaurants

  1. Heaven Sent, the latest fried chicken spot(s) by Ezell Stephens, recently opened a new location in Seattle. Located at 3427 Rainier Ave. S., the restaurant will also share a space with Willie’s Taste of Soul which is best known for their smoked bbq.
  2. The Blue Grouse opened a couple of weeks ago in Georgetown. According to Allison Scheff of Seattle Magazine, owner Diane Lane turned converted her house into the bar where she serves “snacky foods” (think pizza) and will even feature live music once a month.

Food News

According to Eater, there’s a food cart “pod” springing up in Belltown. A real estate deal went south last year leaving a plot of land on 2nd between Vine and Wall empty. So now, rumor on the street is that food carts from around the city might have a new spot to park it and sling their goods.

Upcoming Events

West Seattle: Open on Sundays year round from 10am – 2pm. Located at The Junction.

Columbia City: Open May – October. Located at South Edmonds St. between 37th Ave s. and the alley at 36th. Wednesdays 3pm-7pm.

The Food Files

9 May

Welcome to the first edition of “The Food Files”! Here’s I’ll share with you the rundown on Seattle area food news, events, and other interesting tidbits. Let’s get to it…

New Restaurants

  1. Although Easy Joe’s isn’t brand new per se, they did get new digs in Pioneer Square recently. At this “American Pub” you’ll find typical diner fare such as burgers but thrown in are a few unusual concoctions as well (Wasabi Grilled Cheese anyone?). http://www.easyjoes.com
  2. Following the trend of food trucks setting up more permanent locations, Cafe Con Leche has setup shop in SODO. Known for their “homestyle” Cuban food, I hear there will also be live music so this is definite must visit on my list! Cafe Con Leche in The Stranger
  3. Speaking of food trucks, Jemil’s Big Easy hit the streets of Seattle slingin’ authentic New Orleans cuisine back in March. Follow them on twitter and/or facebook for info about their daily locations. http://jemilsbigeasy.com/
